Teck Whye is a vibrant neighbourhood that captures the essence of a typical Singaporean town. It’s filled with local neighbourhood hang out spots, eateries, shops, and at the heart of it all – a community that lives within the 70+ HDB flats around. Worthy of having an entire website dedicated to it (hehe), Teck Whye provides an inside look into the real people of Singapore, and how we go about our daily lives.
But let’s keep it real, these hidden gems that we talk about could most likely be found in other neighbourhoods too.
Whether you’re a couple looking for a new dating spot, families looking for new playgrounds, or a nature-enthusiast, gear up for an exploration of sights, sounds and experiences in Teck Whye.
“Hey neighbours, I like nature. Where can I go for a stroll in Teck Whye?”
Pang Sua Park Connector, we call it big longkang
This gem is our favourite route for a casual stroll. A 6km track that connects Zhenghua Park (in Bukit Panjang), all the way to Yew Tee – it’s always packed with families, dog walkers and people training for marathons – a fun sight amidst the busy-ness of life.
Highlights of the Pang Sua Park Connector include the variety of flora and fauna, and even a fishing deck. Despite the heavy footfall, you can always find peace while walking the route – we can definitely attest to that!
Chua Chu Kang Park Connector, we like to call it the longkang v.2
A 5.4km track that connects Chua Chu Kang to Bukit Gombak. Residents of Brickland would already be familiar with this track as it brings joggers, runners and cyclists close to their residences on a daily basis. It’ll take about 5 – 10 minutes to get you to the track from the Teck Whye and Keat Hong LRT stations respectively.
Some time later in the year, residents would also be able to enjoy Singapore’s first BMX track at The Bricks. We’ll claim this as a win for Teck Whye too, of course!
“I need to bring my kids to new playgrounds to explore. Any recommendations?”
Teck Whye Garden Playground

We’ve got to rep our spot. Two distinctly different playgrounds – a two-storey tube slide that’s pretty steep but will guarantee a fast slide down, and a swing for two on the other.
The Arena @ Keat Hong
Like an obstacle course!
Treehouse Playground @ Block 12

An old spot located near Sinaran, the treehouse playground is about to get an upgrade of kid-friendly slides and more active play equipment.
In the meantime, kids can enjoy a new playground just a few steps away.

Block 6 Playground
I remember playing in shallow waters at this playground. Understandably, it was upgraded to be more hygienic for kids.
Train Locomotive Steam Adventure Playground @ Teck Whye View
We really wanted to stay away from including this (because everyone has already covered it!), but the grandness of this playground literally took my breath away. That’s at least two hours of guaranteed fun and outdoor play for the kids!
If the main playground at Teck Whye View is too extensive for the little ones – there’s a mini version only a few steps away.
“I’m just curious – are there any community-led initiatives around Teck Whye?”
Community Book Corner

A new feature that we found recently was set up right under our noses, take that as literally as you want. Tucked in the corner of Block 134’s void deck is the Community Book Corner – where, as the name suggests, you can find titles both old and new, created for bookworms of all ages.

We had a visit a couple of weeks ago, and although a little grimey, we found a selection of books that were well read and preserved. All you have to do is to take a book, and leave another for others to enjoy.
“Looking for a cute date-night spot.”
Hey Sugar
The first halal ice cream cafe in Teck Whye, Hey Sugar is located right opposite Keat Hong LRT. The instagrammable interior, decked with fairy lights and pink walls make it a sure-visit for those seeking a modern twist to their exploration of Teck Whye and the surrounding neighbourhoods.
For only $11.50, you get a choice of either the original, charcoal or red velvet waffle, a scoop of ice cream and an iced tea too. Our go-to flavour of ice cream is hands down the Golden Vanilla.
Opens from 2pm til 10:30pm – so be ready to get your dessert fix before orders close.
(Update: HEY SUGAR IS NOW CLOSEDDDDDDDD – WE’RE DEVASTATED (as you can tell))
