Exploring Teck Whye’s Vibrant Community Gardens

Teck Whye is known to be an elderly-friendly neighbourhood – a short walk through any of the estates is testament to that. While there are many who prefer the hustle and bustle of the coffee shops, there are others who have picked up the hobby of nurturing a garden of their own.

According to the CCK Town Council, there are 36 community gardens in CCK Town (which extends to Bukit Gombak, Hong Kah North, Brickland and Keat Hong). These are said to “add vibrancy to the estates’. Our exploration around Teck Whye gave us the opportunity to visit some of these green spaces, dedicated to its residents.

A non-gated community garden with mini plots in a line. The plots stretched around the perimeter of the bend at Teck Whye Lane. While we are not familiar with the greens planted, there were a few standout flowers and plants that caught our eye.

P.S. Maybe we really do need someone with a green thumb to assist us on this article.

To be very honest, we got kinda lost looking for this one. Increasingly, community gardens are placed on rooftops of HDB blocks, or MSCPs. We were at level 7 of 161A Jln Teck Whye when we saw this!

These gated community gardens are placed almost right next to each other. We weren’t able to enter but these gardens were well maintained.

And now, the ultimate community garden that blew our minds…

With over 80 plots for residents to flex their greenery and vegetables, this community garden is one of the largest in Singapore. This gated garden is all decked out in Singapore flags, in time for Singapore’s 60th celebration later on this week.

There was an uncle who sat near the makeshift ‘house’ when we arrived, who gave us permission to walk around to capture some images. Needless to say, it was a pretty cool experience.
