  1. Sinaran | 26 Teck Whye Lane #01-170, Singapore 680026 | Halal | 4.2

Sinaran used to be the go-to place to eat in Teck Whye. Need a place to celebrate a birthday? Or a reunion dinner? Or just damn good food? Block 26 was always the answer – especially for Malay families looking for halal Chinese food in the west.

With a menu that boasts fresh seafood dishes like Singapore’s signature Chili Crab, or the Sweet & Sour Prawn, to the dish that even vegetable haters would love – Sambal Kang Kong, Sinaran had it all.

A special shout out to Sinaran’s chicken rice stall. Growing up, my dad used to order this for packed lunches. Fragrant rice, succulent chicken chopped fresh from the hooks, and a sambal that was the perfect balance of sour and spice. A plate would typically only cost $2.50 back in the day. In recent times, as of everything else in Singapore – they’ve increased the price to $3.50 – $4, still relatively cheap for a plate of damn shiok chicken rice.
  2. Rasa Rasa Teck Whye | 160A Jln Teck Whye, Singapore 681160 | Halal | 4.0

Recently renovated, a robot waiter, and a crazy diverse menu – from Chinese, Thai, Indian food to choose from. Stepping into Rasa Rasa Teck Whye would probably overwhelm you. I’ve had many lepak sessions with friends here and although the drinks are quite expensive for its location ($2.80 for Ice Lemon Tea), it’s probably the most comfortable space to eat at in Teck Whye.

For the uninitiated, Rasa Rasa Teck Whye is also home to Markozar, also known as the go-to dessert for any occasion. Think goreng pisang (fried banana) and martabak manis (sweet pancake? Is pancake the right term?), but elevated. Don’t think of your rising blood sugar and cholesterol levels, of course. They had snaking lines when they first opened, but ordering is made easy now with them being on platforms like Grab (+$2 for convenience).

A viral sensation on TikTok, Planet Bakso also recently opened within Rasa Rasa Teck Whye. The raving reviews on menu highlights like ‘Bakso Volcano’ led to hours-long waiting time. But, as we’re all accustomed to – the snaking lines didn’t deter people. When in doubt, always follow the queue!

Moving on to food spots I am unable to try… these stalls aren’t rated by hundreds of people, but are well-known within the community. Do note that these recommendations are based on Google and also how happy returning customers are when I see them in real life (haha). I don’t have personal anecdotes for these spots, but I trust the reviews on Google!

  1. Xiang Porridge 香粥品 | Teck Whye Shopping Centre | Non-Halal | 4.7

This hidden gem located in the Teck Whye Shopping Centre (real hidden cause you’ll have to go through several other shops before seeing it) has received high praise for being affordable and delicious. Don’t let the dingy exterior of the coffee shop fool you – a hearty meal starts from $4 a bowl and guarantees satisfaction from patrons.

Based on reviews, it’s the perfect meal for a perk-me-up, especially when sick. It’s also one of the only stalls around the greater Chua Chu Kang area that sells really good porridge.

  1. Blk 144 Coffee Shop | 144 Teck Whye Lane, Singapore 680144 | Non-Halal | 4.0
I have lost count on how many coffee shops there are in Teck Whye Shopping Centre. It’s a food hub and a hang out spot for residents in the area, with many of them open until late in the night. This coffee shop at 144 is always packed with people ordering some form of noodles – from Laksa to Lor Mee and Fishball Soup. Queues are common here – which only means that the food must be good.

Reviews highlight the Lor Mee being exceptionally thick and fragrant with huge portions, and priced at $4 a bowl.
  2. Fei Zai Bak Kut Teh | 16 Teck Whye Lane, Singapore 680016 | Non-Halal | 4.7
On to coffee shops further from Teck Whye Shopping Centre, the reviews for Fei Zai Bak Kut Teh state that it isn’t the typical BKT common in Singapore, but the Malaysian herbal-style – a rare find. With the herbal broth being rich, aromatic and full of depth, the dishes served here are a great value for money, starting from $8.

We’re sure we haven’t managed to cover every amazing eatery  around Teck Whye, but this is definitely a good start! The next time you’re searching for ‘new places to eat in Singapore’ or ‘what to eat in Singapore’, remember to include Teck Whye as part of your weekend plans.
